A Creative Back-to-School Reset:
Make a Mosaic Lamp Together

A screen-free, hands-on family experience in Houston and Dallas — open daily, ages 7+

Ages 7+ No Experience Needed Houston & Dallas ~2 Hours Open Daily

Back-to-school season usually means supply lists, new schedules, early mornings, and busy family calendars. Before homework, practices, and after-school activities take over, why not make time for one meaningful creative experience together?

A Turkish mosaic lamp workshop offers families a colorful, screen-free way to reconnect, express their creativity, and begin the new school year with something they created side by side. At Pedalisa Art, families can design their own glowing mosaic lamps while enjoying a welcoming, beginner-friendly workshop experience in Houston and Dallas.

More Than Another Back-to-School Purchase

New backpacks, notebooks, shoes, and school supplies are important — but many of them will eventually be replaced.

A handmade mosaic lamp is different. Children get to choose their own colors, arrange glass tiles and beads, experiment with patterns, and watch their ideas gradually become a real, working lamp. Instead of bringing home another temporary school-season purchase, your family leaves with a personal keepsake connected to a shared memory.

The finished piece can become a colorful addition to a bedroom, reading corner, homework desk, or family room  a glowing reminder of a creative day spent together.Creative Ideas: Family Workshops. Creative Ideas. A Creative Arts project, offering fun and inspiring family workshops

A Screen-Free Activity Kids Can Enjoy

Finding screen-free activities for kids can become more difficult once school begins. Many children spend their days moving between classroom technology, homework platforms, phones, tablets, and television. A hands-on art workshop creates space to slow down and focus on something physical and creative.

During a Pedalisa Art workshop, children can:

  • Select colors that reflect their personality
  • Build patterns using colorful glass pieces
  • Make creative decisions independently
  • Practice patience and attention to detail
  • Experience the excitement of completing a real art project

There is no pressure to create a "perfect" design. Every lamp is different, which gives children the freedom to create something that feels completely their own. Workshops are suitable for ages 7 and up, with parents or guardians participating alongside younger guests. Sessions typically last approximately two to two and a half hours.

Creativity That Does Not Feel Like Homework

Back-to-school activities do not always need to be academic. Creative projects naturally encourage children to plan, make choices, solve small design challenges, and stay focused on a goal — while still feeling relaxing and fun.

Parents can also participate by creating their own lamps, turning the workshop into a shared family experience rather than an activity where adults simply watch from the sidelines. Children and parents can compare colors, exchange design ideas, help each other choose patterns, and celebrate the finished lamps together.A diverse and happy group of people of different ages smiling while making mosaic lamps together at a community table in Pedalisa Art studio.

What Happens During a Mosaic Lamp Workshop?

No previous art or mosaic experience is required. Our instructors guide participants through each step of the process, from choosing a lamp style and color palette to arranging mosaic glass and decorative beads.

Workshop admission includes: lamp components, glass tiles, beads, tools, LED bulb, step-by-step instructor guidance, Turkish tea, baklava, and Turkish delight. At the end of the session, each participant takes home the mosaic lamp they created.
